Rwanda TravelogueDay 1 - July 10, 2022Picked up by our car at 5 am - I set the alarm clock correctly this time and we were ready and waiting. Trip to Heathrow wasn't as busy as we had been warned it would be and we got there in plenty of time. Club world check-ins were heaving, so we went to an unoccupied First Class check-in, where the agent was happy to help. Passports out - except when I opened my passport holder, it was empty. Panic. I couldn't fly without it, so the agent tried to book us in for the next day. Only a single seat remained on that flight, so Mavis would have had to go on her own and I would catch up - very much not ideal. I looked down to get my bag and - lo - my passport was on the floor, having fallen out of my open wallet. Panic over and we checked in. Security was so crowded that we couldn't initially find the "Fast Track" lane. The whole floor was packed and security staff were closing the lifts and escalators to the floor to reduce the overcrowding - presumably causing overcrowding on the check-in floor below... After that, flight was uneventful and we arrived at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at around 10 pm. We had to produce print-outs of our Health Declarations (to prove we were fully vaccinated) and then went through border control quite quickly - the only hold-up being the need for the agent to find some East African visas to stick in our passports. We were then met and driven to our overnight hotel - the Four Points by Sheraton. |
